Joseph Messina on Piano

Joseph Messina flies into Grasso’s from a 45 year career in aviation to share his second love, the Piano.  A long time Huntington resident, Mr. Messina decided to further his education at Hoffstra  University and received his Master in Music Ed. in 1975.  Studying under Dr. Fred Mendelssohn stirred the passion in his heart towards performing the piano.  That little unassuming gentleman turned out to be Frank Sinatra’s accompanist during the 20’s and 30’s.  His musical genius also backed the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Rosemary Clooney, Sinatra and many more.

After being selected as one of 90 candidates for the first Van Cliburn International Amateure competitions, Messina would be followed around the country on his flights by Public television to film him practicing at local Steinway piano dealerships.  Messina says, “While I will never reach the heights of a Horowitz, Rubinstein or Liberace my sole purpose, until God calls me home, is to bring happiness to people through my music.”
